About ATSILIRN
ATSILIRN is the trading name for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Library, Information and Resource Network Inc. The Network was established after it was recognised that there was a need for a support and information network for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people working in libraries. The scope of the Network includes people and organisations servicing the information needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people. ATSILIRN's membership includes students, individuals and organisations that provide information or resource services, with the majority of members coming from library and archival institutions.
ATSILIRN's Origins
Originating in November 1993, ATSILIRN was initially named the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Library Resource Network (ATSILRN). The Network was an outcome of a recommendation from the Gathering and Sharing Workshop, which was held at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). In 1995 the Network's name was changed to include the word 'Information', because it was felt that the new name better reflected the Network's membership and aims.
